Utilinked is a comprehensive UK energy brokerage platform designed to streamline the lifecycle of independent utilities agents. The system enables agents to onboard securely, manage client utility referrals, and track commissions in real time. By digitising operations, the platform helps energy consultancies scale their agent networks whilst reducing administrative overheads.
Managing independent agent networks manually often leads to bottlenecks in document verification, contract generation, and commission reconciliation. The platform needed to handle complex business rules, such as multi-site utility data entry, e-signatures, and dynamic commission structures, while maintaining data security. Additionally, the system had to support high-volume document processing and storage tracking without degrading application performance.
To address these operational challenges, MernLabs built a secure, full-stack application featuring a dedicated admin dashboard and a mobile-responsive agent portal. A Next.js App Router architecture was chosen to deliver fast page loads and seamless routing, while MongoDB provided a flexible database schema to accommodate complex, multi-site energy contracts. We implemented a robust document assembly engine to generate legally binding agent agreements and client referral documents on the fly. To ensure enterprise-grade security, we structured a multi-tiered JSON Web Token authentication system combined with strict middleware verification. Finally, an intelligent database caching strategy was designed to store generated contract binaries, minimising API latency and server-side compute.
